Spain triumph in Euro 2012 final

A stunning performance by the Spanish national team saw them secure a 4-0 victory over Italy in the final of Euro 2012.

Goals from David Silva, Jordi Alba, Fernando Torres and Juan Mata gave Spain their third successive major international tournament win, following their victories at the 2008 European Championship and the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Spain dominated the match from the start, with Andres Iniesta pulling the strings in midfield and David Silva causing problems for the Italian defence. Silva opened the scoring in the 14th minute, with a fine finish from the edge of the area.

Alba doubled Spain's lead just before half-time, with a low shot from the left-hand side of the area. Torres made it 3-0 in the 76th minute, with a close-range finish after good work from Silva.

Mata added the fourth goal in the 88th minute, with a fine strike from outside the area. Spain's victory was a fitting reward for their dominance throughout the tournament, and they will now go down in history as one of the greatest international teams of all time.
