The two fighters had previously met at UFC 40, with Ortiz winning by knockout. However, Couture came out on top this time, winning by unanimous decision.
The fight was a back-and-forth affair, with both fighters having their moments. However, Couture was able to control the pace of the fight and land the more significant strikes. He also took Ortiz down several times, which proved to be the difference in the fight.
With the win, Couture avenged his loss to Ortiz and regained the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. He is now 16-8 in his career, while Ortiz falls to 17-6-1.
