Arrested Under Digital Security Act For Spreading Misinformation


Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Shikder passed the order on Monday (May 30) after a seven-day fresh remand plea was placed before the court.

Anisul, son of late East Bengal Club player Moslem Uddin, was arrested by the DB police in the capital’s Shahbagh area on May 20.

The detective branch (DB) of police arrested Salman Shahriar on May 22, 2022, for allegedly spreading misinformation on social media. He was first put on a three-day remand, which was later extended twice. On May 30, he was put on a fresh five-day remand for the fourth time.

According to the police, Salman is a social media activist who has been spreading misinformation and propaganda against the government and law enforcement agencies.

The police also said that Salman has been involved in several other cases related to cybercrime.

If convicted, Salman and Anisul could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to Tk 10 lakh.
